Verticality, Gaze and Light
Sype 018 is a 222 cm sculptural steel floor lamp whose slender lines gradually form the shape of an eye. At its centre, a luminous circle becomes the focal point of the composition. Shaped surfaces and visible welding marks contrast the delicacy of the design with the raw character of steel. Light diffuses through the structure and extends the presence of the sculpture onto the wall.

Sype's Thoughts
With Sype 018, I wanted to create a gaze using as little material as possible. Two long steel lines outline the eye and naturally lead towards the luminous circle at its centre. I like the contrast between this very slender, almost fragile silhouette and the fabrication marks that I deliberately leave visible in the steel. Light gives this vertical structure a presence that extends beyond the material itself.
